Services

The Kidney Foundation of WNY provides a variety of programs and services to patients and families in the eight counties of WNY who are suffering from kidney disease and other related diseases.

Our service area includes Allegany, Cattaraugus, Chautauqua, Erie, Genesee, Niagara, Orleans and Wyoming counties.

Patient and Caregiver Services

For a patient who learns that he or she has chronic kidney disease or another disease affecting the kidneys, the diagnosis can be overwhelming and the array of choices bewildering.

Our foundation offers:

  • Resources to help patients better understand kidney disease and to navigate their options, including dialysis and transplantation.

  • Assistance with emergency financial, nutritional or transportation needs to some patients with acute needs.

Community Awareness

National agencies, the New York State Department of Health and Western New York county health departments have all publicly recognized the need for increased and improved awareness of kidney disease and contributing factors, both among at-risk populations and primary care physicians. Our foundation helps meet these needs by:

  • Promoting public awareness of kidney disease and its risk factors through broad-based and/or targeted public educational campaigns

  • Facilitating screenings for those at heightened risk

  • Partnering with community organizations to focus on root causes of kidney disease; obesity, diabetes and hypertension

Professional Education

Continuing education for Healthcare Professionals is a key component of the Kidney Foundation of Western New York’s mission. We offer regular updates and education programs to Physicians, Nurses, Social Workers and other Healthcare professionals.

Meeting New Needs

During the COVID-19 pandemic, the Kidney Foundation of WNY has worked to address new needs and priorities in our community. We distributed thousands of cloth masks to dialysis centers for the use of patients and families, and provided hand sanitizer when it was in short supply.

The foundation has expanded support programs for providing nutritional supplements, rides to medical treatment, assistance with medication costs and other urgent patient needs.

We’re also offering new online educational programs for patients and for medical professionals.
